Windows Service Requirements:
-
Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005, with or without Service Pack 1. (SP1 is preferred)
Note: If you install the QMX for MOM Service on Windows 2003 R2, you must apply the MOM service pack 1.
-
Operating Systems:
-
Memory: 512 megabytes (MB)
-
Disk space: 128 megabytes (MB)
-
DVD-Rom drive
-
If installing the QMX for MOM Service on a server that has other WBEM products on it, ensure the other WBEM products do not use ports 5988 and 5989.
Patch Requirements:
Before you begin the installation make sure that you have the latest patches for your operating system version. The following is a list of required patch levels:
-
AIX 5.2 and 5.3: Testing was performed with latest patch levels; earlier patch levels may have limited success.
-
SUSE Linux Enterprise Servers 9.0 requires Service Pack 2
-
Solaris 8: Patch 110934-05 and 110380-04
-
Solaris 9: Patch 113713-22 and 117480-01, unless you have the newest OS download from Sun.
-
Solaris 10: Patch 120664
-
HP-UX:
Quest recommends that you keep each platform up to date with the recommended patch set for that platform.
Security Requirements for Installing Directories:
The Agent carries out certain limited operations as the root user. To protect against exploits that might try to subvert these privileged operations, certain security-critical files and directories read by the CIMOM must be protected from modification by non-system users. For this reason, before installing the Agent on any platform, you must ensure that only “root” has “write” privileges on the following directories:
-
/
-
/opt (if it exists)
-
/var
-
/var/opt (if it exists)
-
/etc
-
/etc/opt (if it exists)
Note: On HPUX, bin may also have write privileges.
You must not change these permissions after installing the QMX for MOM Agent; likewise, you must not change permissions of directories and files created by the QMX for MOM installer. The Agent verifies permissions every time it is run, so if someone changes permissions later it will shut itself down and write an ERROR to the log.
Note: To ensure that these directories have proper privileges, use the -p option for the vsmclienttool to examine the directory structure. If the Agent fails to start, run this command to see if the files and directories are secure.
