Quest® Collaboration Services
Version 2.0.3
Release Notes
September 10, 2007
Welcome to Quest Collaboration Services
Resolved Issues and Enhancements
Secure by design, Quest Collaboration Services provides global address list (GAL) and free/busy synchronization while maintaining security isolation between organizations. Administrators of multi-forest Active Directory deployments can optimize the power of synchronization yet maintain regulatory compliance and administrative autonomy. Administrators can eliminate the manual tasks of duplicating contacts in several address books. Users can stop maintaining complex personal address lists and sending multiple emails to find available meeting times.

|
General
|
In large Exchange deployments, setup fails with the "Unable to enumerate Exchange servers in the forest. (The size limit for this request was exceeded)" error. |
CR0192117 |
|
If domain’s DNS and NetBIOS name differ, the preferred Domain Controller (DC) selection functionality does not work properly for that domain. Instead of connecting to the specified DC, Collaboration Services is using server-less bind and is connecting to a random DC. |
CR0180889 |
|
|
Instead of using server-less binding to connect to closest Global Catalog server (GC), Collaboration Services is connecting to the first GC server listed in the Active Directory configuration.
|
CR0183282 |
The following is a list of issues addressed and enhancements implemented in the release of Quest Collaboration Services 2.0.1.
|

Resolved Issue |
Change Request |
|
General
|
All types of groups are created as Global Security groups on the subscriber side. The issue is reproduced only when the target (subscriber) domain is in Native mode. |
CR0118078 |
|
The "Synchronized Groups" feature is not working with stub objects created after conflict resolution involving the delete operation. All changes to the stub's membership are overwritten as updates are applied to the stub. Membership is restored to the last state saved right after conflict resolution. |
CR0131023 |
|
| Synchronization of remaining collection objects fails with “The parameter is incorrect” error after a published object with invalid legacyExchangeDN attribute is encountered. |
CR0132999 |
|
|
Collaboration Services stops synchronization if you publish the stub object back to the publisher, then delete the stub from Active Directory. |
CR0141155 |
|
|
If a published object has one or more custom non-SMTP email address(es) assigned, the incorrect redirection address may be set on the corresponding stub object under certain circumstances. In this case, the redirection address is created using custom address. |
CR0166224 |
|
| Under certain circumstances, free/busy synchronization fails with the “The parameter is incorrect” error. | CR0132999 | |
| Cannot enumerate Exchange 2000 servers setup error. | CR0106841 | |
| In case of the extremely unlikely event where Collaboration Services processes’ timings overlap, group membership may not be synchronized properly. | ||
| SendTo restrictions are not preserved on published objects. Corresponding attributes cannot be added to the synchronization. | ||
| The setup account requires additional privileges not listed in the documentation. | ||
| If the license has been infringed for Active Directory synchronization, the licensing mechanism fails to count used licenses correctly even if the license is updated. The licensing dialog shows the number of objects that exceed the licensed amount. | ||
| License infringement event is logged too often. |
The following is a list of issues known to exist at the time of Quest Collaboration Services release.
|
Feature |
Known Issue |
|
General
|
Indexing service, antivirus on-access scanners, and any other software which interacts directly with the file system may lock Collaboration Services databases and cause synchronization failures. You must exclude the "Storage" subfolder in the Collaboration Services installation folder from the scope of such tools. |
|
The value of the "Apply to sub-containers" checkbox for Matching page is controlled on the Deletion page in the Collaboration Services Properties dialog box. On the Matching page, you can set a value, but it is ignored. Instead of getting a value from this checkbox, the code reads the checkbox value located on the Deletion page. |
|
|
The user interface may appear to hang for significant time when retrieving large quantities of data when the Collaboration Services server CPU usage is high. This happens because the user interface has the lowest priority and always yields to all other Collaboration Services processes. |
|
|
Collection statistics may show the wrong information. This does not mean there are any errors in the synchronization. Please refer to Collaboration Services events for tracking synchronization issues.
|
|
| When upgrading the license to one for a different amount of synchronized objects, it is required to perform a re-publication of all published collections. | |
|
You need to manually uninstall the previous version of the Collaboration Services remote web interface before, or after, an upgrade using Add/Remove Programs. Once that is completed, the new version of the web interface package will be downloaded automatically when you first connect to Collaboration Services server remotely. |
|
| QCS Namespaces list may contain duplicate namespaces after installation. You can remove duplicate values manually. |
In order to upgrade, you must be running Collaboration Services 2.0 build 225, 233 or 234. Please refer to the Upgrade section of Quest Collaboration Services 2.0 – User Guide for more information on upgrade procedure.
Note: If you need to upgrade from other versions of Collaboration Services, please contact Quest Technical Support.

| Hard Disk Space |
5 GB of free disk space minimum Additional disk space: 1MB per every 1K of synchronized AD objects 1MB per every 1K of synchronized free/busy objects |
| Operating System |
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (SP3 or later) Microsoft Windows 2000 Server (SP3 or later) Microsoft Windows XP Professional (SP1 or later) Microsoft Windows Server 2003 |
| Additional Software | MAPI Client: Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later (version 7.0 is not currently supported) Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 5.0 or later (only required if you want to use remote access to the UI) |
| Exchange Server |
Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 (only supported in mixed mode Exchange 2000/2003 organizations) Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 (SP2 or later) Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 |
The remote computer from which you are connecting to the Collaboration Services by means of the web interface should have the following software installed:
| Operating System | Microsoft Windows NT4 (SP6a or later) Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Microsoft Windows XP Professional Microsoft Windows Server 2003 |
| Additional Software | Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or later (version 7.0 is not currently supported) |
The accounts used when installing and using Collaboration Services must have the following permissions:
| Account | Used To | Required Permissions | Notes |
| Setup account | Run the Collaboration Services setup and deploy the service |
Exchange View Only Administrator role Local Administrator permissions on the computer where Collaboration Services is installed. Full Control permission for Collaboration Services container |
Be sure to log on to the server with this account before launching setup. When installing the service you will be offered to use the setup account as a service account. You can change it to another account if you need to. |
| Service account | Start the synchronization service on the Collaboration Services server | Local Administrator privileges on the computer where Collaboration Services instance is installed | After Collaboration Services is installed, the service account will be used as a general account. You can change it to another account any time later. |
| General account | Read and update AD data |
Read access to Active Directory Replicate Directory Changes right for all domains in the forest from which objects will be published Manage Replication Topology right for all domains in the forest from which objects will be published Write, create, and delete objects rights for the Collaboration Services container and child containers Delete objects right for all containers with objects that are subject to conflict resolution via deletion Write permission for all objects that are subject to matching Modify a group membership right for all groups whose members can be affected by conflict resolution via deletion or matching |
As long as objects that are subject to conflict resolution via deletion or matching can be scattered all over the forest, be sure to give this account sufficient privileges so it can update/delete objects located in different domains and containers and change membership of different groups throughout the forest. |
