| Known Third Party Issues | ||||
Quest Central Explorer is an intuitive, easy-to-use exploration and launching tool that can assist you in your day-to-day database management tasks. You can view information and launch tools to monitor your company’s database systems, diagnose workload problems, optimize performance, and manage the administrative and coding tasks required to keep your system in top performing condition.
Using features of Quest Central Explorer, you can do the following:
Updates to Quest Central Explorer 3.0.0
Products Removed - You can no longer launch the following Quest products from the Quest Central Explorer: Quest Notification Server, Notice Board, Quest Central for Databases, Database Analysis for SQL Server, and the Foglight Console.
Default Icons - When adding a new user tool, the Quest Explorer displays the tool's default icon in the Tools section. If a selected tool does not have an icon, a Quest Central Explorer icon displays instead. The icon drop‑down and Browse buttons were removed from the Add/Edit Tools Entry dialog.
Updated Content - Performance Analysis, SQL Optimizer, Space Manager, and Capacity Manager for Oracle include new features, updates, and enhancements. Refer to the Release Notes for these products for details.

|
Launch |
Restricted users can now launch Quest Central Explorer locally or through Citrix without receiving an error message. |
CR#0172156 |
|
Toad for DB2 as well as all the other Quest products displayed in the Tools section now have an enabled icon if the product is already installed on your system. Quest Central Explorer checks for installed products before opening the Explorer window and enables the appropriate icons so that you can launch the products. |
CR#0191196 |
|
| Canceling the side-by-side selection dialog no longer launches the product. This dialog lets you choose which version of a product to run when more than one version of the product is available on your system. | CR#0191701 | |
| Quest Central Explorer now prevents you from launching a tool before you select a node or database from the Databases pane. Previously, this check did not occur and you received an application error. | CR#0196374 | |
| User-defined Tools re-launched from the Recent window open properly and do not minimize when you move the cursor on the tool window. | CR#0211567 | |
|
Operations |
When you enable debugging, the debug logs go to the Application Data\Quest Software\QAIT folder. The logs no longer display under My Documents in the Documentation section of Quest Central Explorer. |
CR#0187925 |
|
In Limited User mode, you can now select Add Tools, Add Documents, Check for Updates, click a disabled icon, or press F5, without receiving an application error. |
CR#0191694 |
|
| When adding a new document or tool, the tab feature for advancing from one data entry field to the next now works as expected. After you enter a document or tool name, press the tab key to move to the URL entry field. |

Customer Issue |
Customer received Quest Database Management Solution errors after installing DB2 products (case #502012-1). The errors resulted from a known .Net 1.1 bug. Quest Central Explorer no longer uses .Net 1.1 (it is now based on .Net 2.0). This should resolve the customer's problem with the installation error messages. |
CR#0208760 |
The following is a list of issues known to exist at the time of the Quest Central Explorer release.

In the Style Editor dialog, long labels in languages other than English may get truncated. | CR#0218043 |
|
Operations |
When you create a tool and move it to a specific location in the Tools section on one platform, it moves the tool to the same location on the other platforms as well. Workaround: None. Keep this action in mind when repositioning tools. |
CR#0212422 |
|
If you double-click on the Quest Central Explorer icon on your desktop three times or more, the memory usage goes way up on the Windows Task Manager dialog. After a few minutes, the task ends and the Quest Central Explorer does not open. Workaround: If you do not get an immediate response after double-clicking the icon, wait a little longer for Quest Central Explorer to open. Your system may be running other compute-intensive tasks. |
CR#0216437 |
|
|
The ability to drag and drop tools in the Tools section to reorder them does not
work for Limited users on all operating systems (including Citrix, non-Citrix,
and Vista systems). Workaround: Log in as an Administrator or Power user on Citrix and non-Citrix systems. On Vista systems, log in as an Administrator. |
CR#0217317 | |
|
When you add a tool to the Tools section with the same name as an existing tool,
selecting one tool may highlight the other, and neither tool launches. Workaround: Rename one of the tools. Tool names must be unique. |
CR#0217313 | |
|
When you launch some products (for example, Performance Analysis) with a database in the
Favorites tree highlighted, they open within the context of that database. When you launch
these products with a database in the Neighborhood tree highlighted, they do not open within
the database context.
Workaround: Launch products with a Favorites tree database highlighted. |
CR#0220616 | |
|
Installation of Spotlight for DB2 onto a machine that does not have a DB2
runtime client installed may cause instability and failure in other Spotlights
installed on the same client. Workaround: The Windows client machine must have a DB2 runtime client installed before you install Spotlight for DB2. |
CR#0220841 | |
|
After uninstalling some products they may still be enabled in Quest Central
Explorer. If you attempt to execute an uninstalled product an application error
may be displayed. Workaround: In Quest Central Explorer, press F5 to refresh. All installed products are enabled and uninstalled products are disabled. |
CR#776 |
|
|
Vista Systems
|
||
|
When you select Show Tool on Cursor, only the tool icon displays. The cursor is not visible. Workaround: On the menu bar, select View and uncheck the Show Tool on Cursor option to see the cursor. |
CR#0211349 |
|
|
When you log in as a Standard (Limited) user, the tools drag and drop, the check
for updates, and the license key options may not work properly or may perform
inconsistently. Also, when a Power user attempts to run Quest Central Explorer,
the application stops running and an error message displays. The Limited user
can run Quest Central Explorer, but then the drag and drop option does not work. Workaround: Use an Administrator login. Do not add User to the Administrator profile. Only an Administrator can edit license keys, which is consistent with Vista security, but is allowable on other Windows systems. |
CR#0219771 | |
| Note: Windows Vista is not an officially supported platform with Quest Central. These features are in development and the schedule for their release has not yet been announced. Documentation of these known issues is a result of preliminary QA testing on Windows Vista. | ||
