What's New

Quest Management Console for Active Directory includes the following new features:

  • Export and Import Raw Active Directory Attributes - Provides the ability to export and import raw Active Directory attributes. You can easily perform bulk changes to Active Directory objects using the export and import feature. You can export and import objects and their attributes for four classes of Active Directory objects:
    - Computers
    - Groups
    - Users
    - Contacts
  • Nested snap-ins - Inserts snap-ins into the hierarchy of another snap-in, reflecting the context of that snap-in. For example, Computer Management (Local System) functionality is embedded under ADUC computers in the Domains node.
  • Alternate views - Reorganizes pieces or subsets of a snap-in's object hierarchy so they can be displayed and viewed in a different way.
  • Snap-in extension support - Automatically displays Quest product extensions of Microsoft management tools.
  • Web launch - Supports launch of Quest web-based applications.

Issues and Limitations

The following is a list of issues known to exist at the time of the Quest Management Console for Active Directory release:

Must upgrade Quest Management Console for Exchange if on same computer

Before you install the Management Console for Active Directory on a computer that already hosts the Management Console for Exchange 1.0.2 or earlier, you must upgrade the Exchange product to release 1.0.3 or later.

Quest Active Roles Server initially missing + sign on root node

If you using Quest Active Roles Server through the management console, the + sign is missing on the root node until you click the node.

IIS snap-in not included under Local System node

When you select a computer under Active Directory View, or a server under one of the Views, the Local Systems node contains all the Computer Management snap-ins with the exception of IIS.

.MSC files cannot be shared between computers

You may see an error if you try to load an .msc file created on a different computer if that computer has a different configuration, even if the snap-ins in the .msc file are common to both.

Active Directory View node may take time to populate the first time

The first time you expand the Domains node, and you are connecting over a slow link, the Active Directory View node may take a few seconds to populate and the + (plus sign) will not immediately appear. The hourglass does not display to indicate that it is "busy".
