Kevin Kline Director of Technology, SQL Server Solutions Group Quest Software |

Kevin Kline is the Director of Technology for the SQL Server Solutions Group at Quest Software. He is a recognized SQL Server expert and author of the O'Reilly titles SQL in a Nutshell and Transact-SQL Programming, both going on their second editions. With more than 18 years of experience in the IT industry, Kevin has worked on large-scale database projects at Deloitte & Touche, NASA and the U.S. Army. He is currently the president of the international SQL Server user's group, PASS. In addition to being a Microsoft SQL Server MVP, Kevin is a regular contributor to database technology magazines, Web sites and discussion forums.

Mark Souza is a Group Program Manager in the Microsoft SQL Server development organization. He heads up all customer and ISV programs for the Microsoft SQL Server unit. These teams specialize in implementing the most challenging customer database applications worldwide. His experience focuses on the issues related to the distribution, modeling, design, and performance of data with a distributed computing application. Mr. Souza uses this customer experience to drive high quality SQL Server product planning back in Redmond. Mr. Souza's twenty four years in the Information Technology business has consisted of database administration, end-user tool management, systems engineering database specialist/lead, client/server architect, Microsoft regional data technology specialist and SQL Server development customer advisory team.
Mr. Souza has a Masters Degree in MIS from Marist College and an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from SUNY Potsdam. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife Lisa of 21 years and three beautiful children (Andrew 13, Megan 11 and Jennifer 9). He also enjoys flying airplanes, reading, running, sports and attending Broadway shows in his spare time.

After programming computers since 1975, Pond was first exposed to SQL Server in 1991, during a thirteen year tenure with a Fortune 50 petrochemical company, where he worked with a number of databases in addition to SQL Server ? Sybase, DB2, RAMIS, Oracle, Informix, dBase, rBase, Clipper, IMS and more.
Pond joined Microsoft in 1999, where he worked on the OLTP and DSS databases for several global-scale internal and customer-facing systems. In June, 2006 he joined the Critical Situation Management Office's (CSMO) SQL Server Center of Excellence as a Technology Architect. CSMO's mission is to reduce the most serious SQL Server support incidents (?Critical Situations?) by sharing best practices and building community through events such as PASS. His primary areas of responsibility within the SQL CoE are BI and OLTP database design and performance.
Pond is a published author with articles in Technet magazine (?XML to the Max: Get More Power out of Your SQL Server?, Technet magazine, Spring, 2005). He has been blogging on SQL performance issues since June, 2005 at http://blogs.technet.com/wardpond, and is currently co-authoring a pending MS-Press title of interest to database professionals.

He is the author to the upcoming SQL Server 2005 High Availability (Apress, Q1 2007), the followup to SQL Server 2000 High Availability (Microsoft Press, 2003). He continues to write and contribute to various whitepapers and training materials about SQL Server for Microsoft. His most current whitepaper is the Failover Clustering for SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services which was published in August, 2006. Allan is a frequent instructor on various DBA topics and presents regularly at Tech Ed, SQL PASS, and other conferences.
