From field is blank after migrating

MMEx 8.12 Exchange 2010 SP3 source and target.

Getting reports of migrated users seeing the From field on some email as being blank/empty (outlook & OWA). The data is in the header, and it’s not all of the emails. It also doesn’t affect the new emails arriving since the mailbox was migrated. I’ve migrated a few hundred mailboxes prior to this issue. This is a different physical site with separate Admins though, so anything’s possible. I found a couple Quest articles around the issue, but Exchange is patched to RU15, and the MM is a version that shouldn’t be affected.

FYI. I did have an issue last week, where users were missing some emails so I did a full re-sync. I wouldn't think that's related, but just in case.

  • Hi Rich, In the KB you listed is a utility to populate the data. I would run that to see if it changes anything. You can also try to change the status of the messages (unread/read) which should cause a sync or you can run a resync after changing the status and see if that changes.

What is strange though is that you say the data is already in the header but yet Exchange isn't displaying it. Because of that, I'm not sure there is much Quest can do since the data is there and it was synchronized from source to target. So you might need to get Microsoft involved in finding out "why" isn't Exchange displaying the data.

  • Hi Chris. I ended up opening a ticket. I'm going to be trying the utility this evening.
