System Center Configuration Manager (Configuration Manager) is an ideal solution for change and configuration management of Windows-based systems. However, Configuration Manager can’t deliver change and configuration management capabilities to over 120 non-Windows systems. Thanks to the Quest Management Xtensions – Configuration Manager (QMX – Configuration Manager) solutions, organizations with complex IT environments can now natively extend the capabilities of Configuration Manager from the Windows domain to over 120 non-Windows systems and devices such as UNIX, Linux, Cisco, other Network Devices, Storage Devices and more.

There are two main components to the software:

The QMX base framework is hosted here (links below) on the Quest.com/System-Center site
The individual extension(s) are hosted on the Management-Extensions.org Community site

System Discovery - Discovers any systems automatically and adds them to the System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (Configuration Manager) Systems Inventory and default collections
Hardware Inventory: - Enables you to transparently access hardware inventory for devices and non-Windows systems within Configuration Manager to automatically display system information in the Resource Explorer and standard reports
Software Inventory: - Captures and Integrates non-Windows system inventory into Configuration Manager by QMX - Configuration Manager to provide flexibility to gather additional select files
Software Distribution: - Keeps systems updated by remotely delivering software distribution to non-Windows systems
Reporting: - Provides access to resource reports for non-Windows systems within the standard Configuration Manager reporting paradigm. Because QMX - Configuration Manager leverages the Configuration Manager database, administrators can leverage existing reports or create new reports for non-Windows systems.
Collections: - Provides dynamic collections within Configuration Manager for non-Windows systems. These non-Windows collections are installed next to Windows collections for better heterogeneous task management
Resource Explorer: - Displays non-Windows hardware and software inventory information for Unix, Linux, VMware and Mac OS X systems within the standard Configuration Manager Resource Explorer—no modification required
