Known IssuesRecovery Manager for Active Directory 7.6.2This page provides a list of the currently known issues that customers may experience with the 7.6.2 release of Recovery Manager for Active Directory. For each issue, the list includes a unique identifier (TFS number), a brief description of the problem, and a workaround, if any exists, for the problem. Last updated: September 14, 2007 TF00002320; TF00003701 After restart of the target domain controller in Directory Services Restore Mode, the Repair Wizard may fail to connect to the Restore Agent on the target domain controller, returning the "RPC server is unavailable" error. WORKAROUND Restart the Repair Wizard and then retry the restore operation. TF00002546 When processing a very large set of objects (1,500,000+ objects in an Active Directory backup), the Online Restore Wizard may fail to perform a compare or restore operation: The wizard may stop responding, eventually causing the Recovery Manager console to close unexpectedly. WORKAROUND Divide the set of objects into portions (on a per-container basis, for example) and then compare or restore each portion separately, one portion per compare or restore operation, so as to limit the number of objects involved in each operation. TF00002738 With the option to use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services selected in the Recovery Manager Installation Wizard, the Setup program presents you with the following warning message despite the fact that the Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable 2005 software is not required in this case: "The feature 'Comparison and Restore Reports' requires the following software: Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable 2005." WORKAROUND Disregard this message. Click Cancel in the warning message box, and then proceed with the Installation Wizard. TF00002847 The "Log Errors Only" option on the Log tab in the Properties dialog box for a Computer Collection has no effect. All events rather than only the error events are written to the log when the "Log Errors Only" option is selected. WORKAROUND There is no workaround for this issue. TF00003495 When run in maintenance mode (by using the Change option on the Recovery Manager entry in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel), the Recovery Manager Installation Wizard does not include the following pages: "Default Backup Storage," "Selecting SQL Server," "Report Management Application." As a result, some application settings cannot be modified in this way.
WORKAROUND These application settings can be modified as follows: - Default Backup Storage: Specify the appropriate BACKUPS value data in the "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Quest Software\Quest Recovery Manager for Active Directory" registry key. - SQL Server: To use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, install it manually from the Recovery Manager CD. - Report Viewer: To use the Report Viewer to view comparison and restore reports, manually install Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable 2005 from the Recovery Manager CD. - Microsoft SQL Reporting server address: To change the server address, specify the appropriate PathToReportServer value data in the "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Quest Software\Quest Recovery Manager for Active Directory" registry key. TF00003518 When using a comparison report created by the Online Restore Wizard, you encounter the following problem: The report does not contain information about objects that were moved between containers after the backup was created. Sometimes, in the comparison report, the moved objects are marked "removed" or "added." WORKAROUND There is no workaround for this issue. TF00003572 In some limited scenarios, after creating a large number (100+) of backups of a given domain controller, you may encounter the following problem: Recovery Manager fails to create a backup of that domain controller, returning one of the following error messages: - The program has failed to back up DIT Database: The specified server cannot perform the requested operation. Function 'LdapBind' failed: 'Server Down' (81) - Error when collecting backlink information. Failed to enumerate forest partitions. Function 'GetNamingContextDN' failed The server is not operational. - Function 'LdapBind' failed: 'Server Down' (81) WORKAROUND Restart the Quest Backup Agent service on the domain controller that is affected by this problem. TF00003583 Wnen upgrading or uninstalling Recovery Manager 7.6.0 that was updated with the RMAD-7.6.0-521769.2 hotfix, the Setup program displays the following error message: "Windows Script Host: Script: C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Recovery Manager for Active Directory\WMIProvRemove.vbs …Error: Not found." WORKAROUND Disregard this error. Click OK in the error message box. TF00003757 The Repair Wizard may lose connection to the Restore Agent after restart of the target domain controller in Directory Services Restore Mode (see TF00002320; TF00003701). Under this condition, an attempt to click Next in the wizard results in an error message stating that the wizard cannot restart the target domain controller so you might try to do that manually. WORKAROUND To have the wizard restart the target domain controller, click Back to reach the "Target Computer" page; then, click Next (this causes the wizard to display a dialog box prompting for the credentials of the Directory Services Restore Mode Administrator) and supply the user name and password of the Directory Services Restore Mode Administrator account. TF00003898 When viewing a report created by the Group Policy Restore Wizard, you encounter the following problem: Clicking the link "Comparison report does not display some unsupported settings. To view a list of those settings, refer to Solution 12024" at the top of the report page opens the home page of the Quest SupportLink Web site in your Web browser instead of displaying the list of the settings. WORKAROUND To view Solution 12024, enter your SupportLink username and password on the home page of the SupportLink Web site, and then click Login. If you do not have a SupportLink username, click Register on the home page. TF00003931 Incorrect behavior of the Recovery Manager Setup program: The Installation Wizard may prompt you to install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 even though this software is not required. In fact, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is required by only the "Comparison and Restore Reports" feature. WORKAROUND If you do not choose to install the "Comparison and Restore Reports" feature, disregard the prompt for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 in the Recovery Manager Installation Wizard. TF00003943 When creating a backup of a domain controller that is running on a virtual, VMWare-based machine, you may encounter the following error: "The program has failed back up hardware information: The filename, directory name or volume label is incorrect." This problem occurs if the VMWare Tools software of VMWare Workstation 6.0 is installed on the virtual machine. WORKAROUND Uninstall the VMWare Tools software, and then retry backup creation. TF00003956 With two instances of the Repair Wizard running concurrently on the same computer, one of the wizard instances may fail to restore backup data to the target domain controller, returning the following error messages: "Error occurred when preparing to restore the computer '<Computer name>'. Failed to restore" and "The wizard cannot determine currently loaded startup option. Most likely, the boot.ini file on that computer is lost or corrupted. Automatic restart will be unavailable." WORKAROUND Avoid running multiple instances of the Recovery Manager console on the same computer. TF00003961; TF00004163 The Report Viewer may fail to open a comparison or restore report that includes information about a large number of objects (10,000+). One of the following error messages is displayed in this case: - Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. - An error occurred during local report processing. An unexpected error occurred in Report Processing. Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryExpection' was thrown. WORKAROUND Use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services to work with large reports. TF00003964 With the "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services" option selected on the "Report Management Application" page in the Recovery Manager Installation Wizard, you may encounter the following errors: "Failed to check availability of the specified SQL Reporting server" and "The specified SQL Reporting server is not available." This problem occurs if the user account under which the wizard is running does not have sufficient rights to access the specified SQL Reporting server. WORKAROUND Restart the Installation Wizard under a user account that has sufficient rights to access the desired SQL Reporting server. TF00004002 When running on a Windows Vista based computer, the Online Restore Wizard for ADAM may fail on the "Backup Data Preparation" step, returning the following error: "Failed to connect to the extracted database. Error occurred while opening database. Details: Database was not shutdown cleanly. Recovery must first be run to properly complete database operations for the previous shutdown." WORKAROUND For information on how to work around this problem, contact Quest Support. TF00004003 Clicking the Comparison button on the Object Selection page in the Group Policy Restore Wizard may cause the "The key was not found" error. WORKAROUND There is no workaround for this issue. TF00004127 Incorrect window captions in all screenshots in the "Appendix 2" section of the Recovery Manager for Active Directory Quick Start Guide: The captions must be "Quest Backup Agent for Active Directory." WORKAROUND There is no workaround for this issue. TF00004164 Incorrect error message: In some limited scenarios, Recovery Manager may fail to create a backup, with the status of the backup session indicating the following error: "Backup end with error. Failed to install the agent: The RPC server is unavailable." This message does not properly describe the error condition, and should read as follows: "Failed to install the backup agent: The specified domain controller cannot be contacted or access is denied."
WORKAROUND Verify that the domain controller exists and can be contacted on the network. Ensure that the backup session is running under a user account with administrator rights on the domain controller (the administrator rights are required to install the Backup Agent on the domain controller). TF00004197 When Recovery Manager runs on a Windows Vista based computer, the Online Restore Wizard may fail to compare two backups, displaying a dialog box that prompts you for credentials to access a domain. Upon closing that dialog box, the wizard returns the following error: "Failed to connect to the failed domain controller or ADAM instance using the agentless method." WORKAROUND In the dialog box, specify the user name and password of a user account that has sufficient rights to access the domain. TF00004239 After upgrading Recovery Manager for Active Directory to the Forest Edition version, you encounter the following problem: Recovery Manager does not allow you to install the Forest Edition license key file. You can only install the Recovery Manager for Active Directory license key file. WORKAROUND Uninstall Recovery Manager for Active Directory, and then install Recovery Manager for Active Directory Forest Edition. TF00004242 After upgrading Recovery Manager 7.6.0 to Recovery Manager Forest Edition 7.6.2, you may encounter the following problem: The retry operation on a backup creation session fails, returning the following error: "Failed to start backup: there are no computers to back up in this Computer Collection." WORKAROUND Start a new backup creation session instead of retrying an existing session. TF00004254 After upgrading Recovery Manager 7.6.0 to version 7.6.2, you may encounter the following problem: The Recovery Manager console does not display the Active Directory backups that were registered with version 7.6.0. (A list of backups is displayed in the details pane when you select Active Directory under the Backups node in the console.) WORKAROUND Register the backups manually as needed. For detailed instructions, refer to the "Backups Properties" topic in Recovery Manager for Active Directory Help. TF00004264 Incorrect behavior of the Setup program in the following scenario: An earlier version of Recovery Manager was installed and then uninstalled from the computer on which you are going to install a new version of Recovery Manager. In this scenario, the new installation uses the license key file that was installed with the earlier (uninstalled) version, instead of using the license key file that was supplied in the Installation Wizard when installing the new version.
WORKAROUND After you have installed the new version of Recovery Manager, use the About dialog box in the Recovery Manager console to install the new license key file. TF00004999 Typographic and layout errors occur on some pages of the Repair Wizard in the French version of Recovery Manager for Active Directory. WORKAROUND There is no workaround for this issue. TF00010300 You may receive the "Exception occurred" error while browsing objects in a backup in the Online Restore Wizard. This problem occurs when the "Maximum number of items displayed per folder under Active Directory node" setting value in the "Recovery Manager for Active Directory Settings" dialog box exceeds 160,000,000. WORKAROUND To work around the error 1. Right-click the "Recovery Manager for Active Directory" node in the console tree, and click Settings. 2. On the General tab in the Settings dialog box, change the "Maximum number of items displayed per folder under Active Directory node" setting value to 160,000,000 or less. TF00010757 When cataloging a bunch of backup files protected with the same password, you encounter an incorrect behavior of Recovery Manager: You have to enter the password for each file in the bunch. WORKAROUND There is no workaround for this issue.
