Main Spotlight on Sybase ASE Window

The main Spotlight on Sybase ASE window provides a quick and intuitive view of the activity of a Sybase instance.

The Spotlight on Sybase ASE window helps you locate system bottlenecks quickly. Related server statistics are grouped together on panels that are connected by a series of graphical flow and icons. Spotlight on Sybase ASE updates these flows in real time so that you can see how quickly data is moving through the system. The icons change color as their values move through the range of thresholds.

Alarm Log

The Alarm Log page displays a table of logged alarms for your defined Spotlight connections. When you first open the Alarms Log, the Connection control displays the name of the current connection.

You can:
  • View alarms for a specific connection.
  • Filter the Alarm Log table so that all, some, or none of these alarms are displayed.

Database

The Database Summary drilldown provides access to information about:

  • Number of databases
  • Size of the fullest database, transaction log, and temp DB being monitored
  • Percentage of space being used by the fullest database, transaction log, and temp DB being monitored

Engine_CPU

The CPU Summary drilldown provides access to information about the amount of time the ASE spends on server-related tasks and the number of engines configured.

Engine_Wait

The Wait Summary sub-page provides charts that illustrate details for the following:

  • Server Wait Count - The total number of wait events for the adaptive server.
  • Server Wait Time (msec) - The amount of time the adaptive server has spent in a wait state.
  • Engine Wait Count - Comparison of the number of times processes have waited on respective engines.
  • Engine Wait Time (sec) - Comparison of the amount of time processes have spent waiting on respective engines.

The Error Log drilldown provides access to details about error messages for the ASE you are diagnosing.

An important feature within Spotlight is the ability to display, collect and replay the behavior of a Spotlight connection at a specified point in time such as when an important alarm was raised.

The details shown via the History browser are identical in format to those displayed by Spotlight in its "live" state, so you can view historical data in the same way as you would view a live connection.

The User Locks drilldown provides access to information about the number of lock waits that exceed the Lock Wait threshold, the number of locks in use, and the number of deadlocks detected on the ASE.
