System Requirements

Hardware requirements

  • A Pentium-based or equivalent PC. Recommended minimum of 1.2 GHz processor
  • 150 megabytes of free disk space. This should exist on a local disk drive rather than a network drive. Extra disk space will be required if you choose to log historical snapshots from within Spotlight.
  • 256 megabytes of RAM (minimum)

Software requirements

  • Windows 2000, Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista
    • Windows 2000. Service Pack 4 (or later) must be installed.
    • Windows XP. Service Pack 1 (or later) must be installed.
    • Windows Vista (without utilizing the new features available under Vista)
  • UNIX Servers. Spotlight on UNIX supports the following UNIX servers and versions:
    • HP-UX: 11i, 11i v2, 11i v3
    • Solaris: 8, 9, 10
    • AIX: 5.2, 5.3, 6.1
    • Red Hat and SUSE operating systems running Linux 2.4 and 2.6 kernels

New Features in v 2.1.1

  • Enhanced diagnostics for defunct ("zombie") processes: Spotlight's new Zombie/Defunct Processes drilldown page provides access to the details of child processes on the Unix host whose termination has not been acknowledged by their parent process.
  • Enhanced security for SSH2 connections to Unix systems: Spotlight can now use public-key cryptography (via DSA or RSA) to communicate securely with Unix-based systems. This functionality is made available only under the SSH2 protocol.
  • Elimination of multiple plink processes for SSH: Spotlight now uses EldoS Corporation's SecureBlackbox product to collect data via SSH from Unix servers, removing the need to run multiple plink connections on the Spotlight client. (For more configuration details, see Known Issues.)
  • Single Spotlight connection to Unix servers: Spotlight now executes its commands on Unix servers via a single connection, eliminating the continuous logging of data to audit files that previously occurred in some Unix environments.
  • Management of large grids has been significantly enhanced:
    • You can now search for any string in a grid.
    • Column organization has been streamlined.
    • Copy to Clipboard can now copy the entire grid, a row, a column, or a cell.
  • Tool tips now shown for multiple alarms: An enhanced tool-tip mechanism now shows a description of all the current alarms associated with the component, plus an explanation of the component itself.
