The essence of the problem with Unix security lies in the architecture of the Unix system which, unlike its Microsoft Windows counterpart, does not traditionally provide methods of partitioning users or providing access privileges based on a user’s role within the company. Similarly Unix systems do not natively allow delegation of system administration commands to the non-system administrator user.
A solution to these problems is Quest Software’s Privilege Manager for Unix. Privilege Manager provides a graphical and common command-line interface for the administration of users and secure partitioning of root privileges. It simplifies the task of creating company-wide security policies and enforcing those policies, without the need for further intervention from system administrators.
