Traditional backup methods are reaching their technology end-of-life. Designed more than two decades before current datacenter infrastructure, traditional systems use inefficient methods for data collection and transmission, and offer limited recovery options. They are also dependent on their own set of complex infrastructure that includes backup agents, along with extra servers, networks, and storage systems. Such complexity adds cost and administrative burden to already over-burdened environments. Ultimately, traditional backup methods—termed legacy backup methods—are proving too costly to operate and maintain with insufficient recovery options.
