Pedal to the Metal: Accelerating Recovery Times in Business Continuity

In this white paper, analyst Jon Toigo of The Data Management Institute, LLC, writes about the need for speed in business continuity. A 25-year veteran in the IT industry, he believes that despite industry chatter about server virtualization, failover clustering, and WAN-based mirroring, the key requirements for successful recovery in the wake of an outage haven’t actually changed. We still need to recover data, re-host applications and reconnect users to the recovery environment.

What has changed are the business realities that need to be accommodated through effective continuity planning. For critical applications and their data, downtime is not an option. Even smaller firms need to find ways to minimize their time-to-data, albeit on a tight to non-existent budget.

This paper explores the options for “putting the pedal to the metal” and accelerating recovery times in business continuity planning.
