Predictive Diagnostics SQL Performance Tuning

Beyond simply incrementally improving our ability to reactively tune SQL, we need to recognize the value in anticipating SQL problems and correcting them before they occur. We call this predictive SQL tuning or predictive diagnostics. DBAs need to be able to mitigate problems that can reasonably be predicted to occur in the near future. With predictive SQL tuning, the DBA can predict a number of problems that can be encountered by an Oracle database and actually prevent their occurence to reduce issues and cost hits.

This document describes the concepts and benefits of a predictive diagnostics capability model.
