If you saw the press release this morning, you already know that the City of McKinney optimizes IT management and data center performance with Dell’s Foglight Performance Monitoring and Toad Data Modeler, increasing application visibility, speeding troubleshooting and improving systems integration.
This fast-growing city was ranked by Money magazine in September 2014 as THE best place to live in America - the city has featured on the top 5 list since 2010!
McKinney has a population of nearly 150,000, with 900 city employees. Its IT team supports more than 200 applications – including critical applications for the police and fire systems – as well as miles of network fiber and hundreds of switches and firewalls. To keep up with its growing infrastructure, the city needed a modern, integrated solution stack that would enable IT managers to monitor critical systems, optimize data center performance, and break down database silos for improved engineering capability. With the support of Dell Consulting Services, the city of McKinney was able to leverage its existing infrastructure, and adopted end-to-end Dell solutions to improve its visibility into critical applications, better integrate disparate databases, and diagnose application failures faster. As the city continues to grow, residents will be able to access an increasing number of modern applications, because the IT department will have more time to focus on application development.
In the words of, Chris Chiancone, CIO, City of McKinney:
“With Dell, we now have a better ability to deliver cutting-edge applications to our customers. Foglight frees up more time for us to focus on application development, so, even though we have a legacy infrastructure, we can still do a lot of innovative things. And, once we have Dell Boomi in place, we’ll be able to offer more mobile opportunities using our existing systems, and we can give residents the ability to pay bills from their mobile devices. Dell is on the right track in terms of delivering solutions to customers, rather than just delivering products. That’s an important distinction, and it’s one of the biggest reasons for my strong confidence in Dell.”
