Almost every business is at least considering moving some of their IT workload to “the cloud” for any number of reasons. Databases are often a major component of this workload. SharePlex 8.6.6, certified for Cloud deployment, can assist in migrating your mission-critical data to the cloud and maintaining it once it’s there.
Cloud Services vendors typically offer one or more classes of service of interest to database users.
An example of this would be Amazon EC2. In this environment, the cloud vendor provides access to a hardware image; and it is the responsibility of the customer to provide and manage the operating system, database and application software.
In this environment, SharePlex can be installed and configured on the EC2 system to serve as either a source or a target.
An example of Platform as a Service would be Amazon RDS or Azure SQLService. This is often referred to as Database as a Service (DBaaS). Here, the cloud vendor provides the operating system and database, and the customer simply accesses data in the database over a network.
In these cases, SharePlex can be used to replicate data to a cloud database.
Here’s a matrix that outlines cloud support available in SharePlex 8.6.6
Azure Marketplace (PaaS)
PostgreSQL (community edition)
In the next few weeks, additional blogs will cover some specific use cases and implementations.
