Would like a What If type NTFS Folder Permissions report

A customer is asking if we can provide a report which is based off the Folder Permissions for Account report.

What he is asking for is the ability to leverage the existing report and combine a 'what if the user was added to one or more group" option within the report.  Think about it this way. If the report lists a user account and multiple paths where the user could have access, it will enumerate where the user and any of the groups the user is a member have access, correct?

What he is asking for is a report which will also include additional groups in the query. I am thinking that for this report to work it is just a logical extension of the query. Essentially for the base report to work the user name is listed and the the group memberships of that user are enumerated and added to a CONTAINS string in the search asking select all folders where the NTFS permissions contains (user, group one, group two, group three). What I am asking for is the ability to expand the list in the CONTAINS string or append an OR path CONTAINS (group four, group five, group six) based on the additional groups added as part of crafting the report.

This is simply a modeling report which will state that if I add this user to one or more groups, the user will then have access to these resources above and beyond what they will have natively with their current group memberships.

This would be a good report for AD permission as well and will be the next ask.

Is there any way that we could have a report like this for NTFS and AD?

  • Hello Michael,

This is a very interesting idea/enhancement that can be considered by the product team but is out of scope for a custom report request. Please continue this discussion in the Enterprise Reporter Ideas page.

    Thank you,
