Technical Documentation for Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online Migration using Quest

Hi,

Is there technical documentation available for migrating from Exchange Server 2010 to Exchange Online?

I’ve been going through the available documentation but haven’t been able to find anything specific to this scenario.

Any guidance or links would be greatly appreciated.

  • You can follow Microsoft’s standard cutover or hybrid migration documentation for moving from Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online, but I agree the guidance can feel scattered—especially since Exchange 2010 is long past support.

A good starting point is Microsoft’s docs for Exchange 2010 hybrid requirements and the steps for a cutover migration (since 2010 doesn’t support Modern Hybrid without upgrades). These cover prerequisites, mailbox prep, directory sync, and the actual data migration process.

If you’re open to using third-party tools, you can also look at EdbMails Exchange Migration. It supports direct migrations from Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online without needing a hybrid configuration, and can handle throttling, incremental sync, etc. It can be useful if you want to avoid the overhead of setting up a hybrid server just for a one-time move.

But if you prefer the Microsoft path only, the cutover migration guide is usually the simplest approach for Exchange 2010.

    Hope this helps!
