The backup has failed because LiteSpeed was unable to retrieve license information

I have a valid contract and license. Upgraded a ms sql 2012 2 node fail over cluster on 10-18-2017 and got the error "The backup has failed because LiteSpeed was unable to retrieve license information". Did a fail over on 10-18-2017,  It has a daily run with no failure. Do a fail over on 10-28-2017 and it ran daily till 11-3-2017 and fail again with same error message. There is 21 databases in this cluster node an it looks like it was successful on 4 of them and then got error on 5th one. It is only happening on the DIFF backup, not the FULL or the TLOG. I have 3 other cluster to upgrade but can't as long as this message keep randomly show up. Any clue as how to debug this? The job was created and last modified on 8-15-2015.

litespeed version 8.6 / build 8.6.0.571

  • Hello,

The message " The backup has failed because LiteSpeed was unable to retrieve license information. Restores can still be performed. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 62001). The step failed."

is caused by a bug in the code that reads the license file.

Please open a support case. Support can then help you with the work around.
