Distribution Group Updates from Source forest to Target Forest.

Brief about our environment.

Source forest: Exchange 2007/2010,Windows 2003 SP2

Target forest: Exchange 2013 SP2, Windows 2012 R2

DMM AD 8.12 to sync distribution group and other AD objects from the source forest to target forest.

At present DSA is able to sync distribution group members from the source to the target as we are using merge not to create objects in the target side.

We have an issue with the group members which were removed in the source are not removed at the target side, how to accomplish this without syncing back the contents to the source side. As we have very limited permissions at the source side.

Basically we want to have the membership count equal at both the sides.

Please share if anyone has faced similar issue and have a solution for that.

  • Good Day!
This type of situation usually occurs because a resynchronization may have been done after users have been removed from the source group and the delta synchronization was not allowed to run, which is where they get removed from the target group.

To best understand this behaviour, and for a script that can resolve this, please see this KB article

    I hope this helps,

  • As our forests are different when it exports the data it has members listed with CN property and while importing on the target side it is throwing error because it does not matches with the DN values. Any idea of getting the groupmemberships in the samaccountnames instead of DN values.
