Intra-forest/Child domain migration

I'm getting ready to commence an intra-forest child domain migration to the parent/root.

I've read numerous posts regarding this but some were over 3 years old so I thought I'd ask again. The tool is deployed and tested (v8.14, only QMMAD, no Exchange components)..just have not done any pilot users.

Customer has Office 365 and the same users in the child also have accounts in the root for O365 functionality (they log into the child then log into root to open email) so I will be merging source into target AD accounts. My plan was to:

1) Merge/match my source/target user objects. Do NOT copy SIDHistory. Configure directory synchronization as normal

2) Copy over security groups

3) RUM all systems (workstations and appropriate servers)

4) Move pilot users to root domain. Keep old child AD account in case a rollback is needed. Test etc...

5) Move all workstations

6) Move all servers

I just need a sanity check. Is this still a solid approach?

As always, thanks for any and all feedback.

Eric
