archive sizes

Why are the sizes of the archives different when you look at them through Windows explorer compared to looking at them through the RR Gui?

  • Hello! Are you describing the archiving of recovery points and the used space on the external storage media, or the repository disk in File Explorer where it appears to utilize the a large amount of storage?

Archives of recovery points from the repository to an external storage media are compressed. So you'll see less used space than what the job is stating in the jobs list in the Core UI.

For the repository and the volume where the repository resides, the viewed usage is expected. When the Rapid Recovery repository is created it is thick provisioned. Therefore, when you specify a 2TB repository, it'll allocate 2TBs on the disk and this is what is reflected in File Explorer. The Rapid Recovery UI will truthfully indicate the repository's used and free space.
