Information for Spotlight Plugin Diagnostic Server and Plugin Collecter

Could someone point me in the direction of documentation about the Spotlight Plugin Diagnostic Server. I have inherited a system that seems to have it installed and I cannot find any information about it. Not sure how I can look at its alarms or if it is even monitoring anything important other than looking at records in its database. There is a SpotlightPluginDiagnosticServer.exe and SpotlightPluginCollecter.exe running.

I also have a system that has Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise 11.5 running with its own diagnostic server and databases and based on the data may be monitoring some of the same machines as the plugin.

  • The SpotlightPluginDiagnosticServer.exe and SpotlightPluginCollecter.exe belong to Spotlight Essentials Plug-In add-on for SQL Server Management Studios. With this add-on tool you can monitor SQL Server connections within SSMS similar to what you do in Spotlight Enterprise. I’m attaching a screen shot of the latest version of this tool for you. You can see Spotlight’s Heat Map along with monitoring alerts in this tool. Connections can be migrated from Spotlight Enterprise or they can be created manually. Spotlight Essentials has been renamed to Spotlight Extensions recently. You can find more documentation here.

    Hope that helps.
