Change to SQL User

The diagnostic Server was installed with a SQL login, not a Windows one.

That SQL now login has to have its password updated.

How do I update the Diagnostic Server with the new password?

Do I have to fully re-install it?

Thanks

Jo

  • Hi Jo,
Spotlight Diagnostic Server is a Windows Service application. To change it's account owner, open Services.msc console and locate "Spotlight Diagnostic Server" service to change the Log On account.

  • Sorry, I wasn't clear enough.

Obviously the Spotlight Diagnostic Server Windows service runs under a Windows account.

During the installation we are required to provide a SQL login for the Spotlight DB. This is the only SQL login involved in the installation of Spotlight Diagnostic Server Windows service. At this point I provided a specific SQL account for SQL login (not Windows Auth).

It is this SQL login to which I am referring.

That SQL now login has to have its password updated.

How do I update the Diagnostic Server with the new password?

Or do I have to fully re-install Spotlight Diagnostic Server Windows service?

If I do have to re-install it, can I make it use the existing Spotlight database?

    Thanks

  • Hi Jo

Thanks for the details, it's much more clear now.

Spotlight installation wizard does require creation of Spotlight Playback database. So, you're prompted to connect to an instance during that time. To change the credentials of this connection, in Spotlight, select the Configure tab at the very top of your screen. From this ribbon bar, click 'Diagnostic Server' icon and click 'Spotlight Playback' option. You'll be able to change your Spotlight Playback database credentials here.

No need to re-install, but you must be getting errors in Spotlight if this connection isn't working.

  • Hi,

Is there any option to start Spotlight for SQL by running executable with credentials via command line?

  • Hi Rahul,

The Spotlight.EXE executable launches the Spotlight client application. Were you looking to launch the client application with different credentials?  Or were you looking to restart the Spotlight Diagnostic Server using different credentials?
