What is the Stat Archive Set Synchronization Wizard?
The Archive Set Synchronization Wizard ensures that one or multiple environments contain the same Version of an individual, or multiple, objects.
When would I use the Archive Set Synchronization Wizard?
There’s several times in which this tool will prove invaluable to users.
i. After a Database Refresh: Say from HRPROD > HRDEV. You would use this tool to ensure you've recovered the latest and greatest versions of code from your Stat Repository back into the HRDEV environment.
ii. After a Crash Recovery: If HRDEV (Development) was to become corrupted and it had to be rebuilt, running the Arch Set Synch Wizard would ensure the code is properly recovered from the Stat Repository.
iii. Environment Sanity Check: The tool can also be utilized to ensure the codes in different environments are as you expect them to be.
The tool effectively searches for objects which may be out of synch with what you expected to see within a particular environment. Once you have run this tool to search the selected environments/objects, you will have a list showing the objects that have different “Archive Set IDs” between the environments chosen.
At this point, the Wizard gives you the opportunity to migrate the object versions that you want to be the same across two different environments.
The end result is that you can update the environment with the most recent version of specific objects. You can also use the same tool to Roll Back an object to an earlier version of itself.
Walkthrough of the Archive Set Synchronization Wizard:
From the Stat Main Menu Bar: Select Object Mgmt > Archive Set Sync Wizard.
When you first load the Archive Set Synchronization Wizard, you should see the following:
In the Select Module field, select your Application Environment of PeopleSoft. Ensure you have selected the proper PeopleTools Version for your environment in the PS Version field.
NOTE: You can set default values to be displayed in the Select Module and PS Versions fields. This is done under the Stat Options Settings.
From the Main Stat Menu Bar: Select User Options | Stat Options. In the Stat User Options window, select the values you want in the Default Module and Default PS Version fields.
In the DB Code/Database Name fields, select your Environments that you want to compare versions across.
In the Object Class/Object Type fields, select your Objects that you want to compare across the selected environments.
Optionally, you may set a specific Date Time Range in the “Show Archives Between” Radio Button Checkboxes on the top right portion of the screen to limit the date range of the items.
When you have selected the objects that you want to compare across environments, select the Next button to continue. The next screen will show you a list of any objects which are found to be out of synch.
Based on the results displayed, select “Next” to continue with the synchronization.
At this point, you may begin the synchronization phase of the operation. Select the Source and Target Environments which you want to synchronize between.
Before selecting the “Migrate” button, be sure to select the Objects which you want to have synchronized. If you select “Migrate” before selecting the objects, you will see the following message: (Like I did)
A quick way of selecting All Objects is to select the Green Checkbox button on the top right side of the window.
Once you have the Objects selected, your screen should look similar to the following:
At this point you are ready to “Synchronize” the objects across the two chosen environments. Select the “Migrate” button to the right of the Target Environment.
When you select the Migrate button, you will be presented with the “Mass Migration Wizard” displayed before you:
Select your Staging Database and choose “Next” to continue the synchronization/migration.
At this point, you will see the standard migration take place. Any Pre & Post Migration Steps assigned will also be fired as a normal part of the migration based on your setup.
When the migration completes, you will see the completed screen and the “Finish” button enabled.
Select the “Finish” button to complete the process and close out the migration window.
Control will be returned to the Synch Wizard and you will notice that the “Migrate” button is now disabled and the “Finish” button is now enabled.
This ensures you are in a completed state and all activities are done.
Note: If you were to re-run the same values again on the Archive Set Synchronization Wizard, the values that appeared previously
should no longer appear – unless you change the environments selected.
