ADPW Question

Question, when setting up AD processing wizard, for the selected domain part, do we pick the source domain/forest or the target domain/forest?  I have migrated the groups over, I have migrated 3 users but they were not added to the groups they were members of in the source domain.  I didn't want to select the wrong domain and cause some sort of issue or reverse (target to source) merge.

Thank you!

  • The domain you select is the one where the groups now reside that need their memberships updated to include the new / "target" versions of the original members.

You should always make sure that you run the tool in "append" mode so that in case you do make a mistake, you can "undo" it easily.

  • So if you migrate users and then migrate groups, you will have groups with members. If you migrate groups and then migrate users, you will have groups with no members. The member attribute of the group that contains the membership of the group is migrated and resolved during the group migration session.

If you have the directory sync enabled and running and the groups are in scope of the sync, the next time the link resolver runs the membership will be updated.

ADPW is for groups in foreign domain across a trust. It will updated the membership of the group based on the existing membership and the mapping data. I.E. Source\Users will be Target\User, so it is NOT what you are looking for.
