  • Hi Ajit,

Can you be more specific with regards to "extreme outlook sluggish" issues?

The first thing you need to check is to make sure Outlook is in cache mode.

From the sounds of it though it sounds like you're hitting bandwidth issue's accessing your Office 365 which falls outside the scope of our products support.

  • Hello,

Bandwidth is not an issue as we have a 150MBPS links for this purpose.
    Outlook is in online mode.
When the copy job starts , users cannot work in their outlook.
Accessing calendar , notes , tasks , composing email is slow.

    Thanks for the quick reply
  • The issue here is that Outlook is in online mode. I would not recommend running this with on-prem Exchange nevermind Office 365. Outlook online mode makes the client hyper sensitive to bandwidth availability.

If you need to operate in this manner for some reason, I would recommend scheduling your agents to perform their copying during off hours only.
  • Outlook being in Online mode and not in Cache mode is the issue here as Johnny pointed out.
  • Hello,

    Thank you for the help.
Checked and see Dell Migration Manager 8.13 is available and suggested to be installed to resolve performance issues.

    documents.software.dell.com/.../new-features

    Migration Manager for Exchange
Microsoft Exchange 2016 organization is now supported as a migration destination in Exchange 2003-2013 to Exchange 2016 migration scenarios. For more information, see Source and Target Exchange Organizations—On-Premises Migration.
Note: Migrating mailboxes to Microsoft Exchange 2016 using native mailbox move is not supported.
Performance improvements for migration scenarios from Microsoft Exchange 2010/2013 to Microsoft Exchange 2013/2016 and Microsoft Office 365 including tangible overall migration performance improvement
Decreased resource usage on agent host servers and source Exchange servers
Lowered network traffic between MAgE and source Exchange organization during mailbox and calendar synchronization
Processing of a recently added mailbox or deleting a mailbox from a collection is now performed as soon as possible without waiting until processing of other mailboxes in that collection completes.

However , when checked known issues :

    documents.software.dell.com/.../known-issues

Users will not be able to use Microsoft Outlook to log on to their mailboxes while the Mail Source Agent is processing them within a Remote Users Collection. If a user is working online, Microsoft Outlook will not operate while the mailbox is being processed. After mailbox processing has been completed, a user must log off and log back on to the mailbox.

So request you to please let me know if we should plan and do the copy process after business hours only even if it is Dell Migration Manager 8.12 or 8.13 for Exchange
  • Ajit, the second article you cite does not apply to a "...to Office 365" scenario as you are using the MAgE agent. The article is in reference to the legacy agents.

Given your situation, as I said before, I would recommend scheduling the data copy to occur only after business hours.
  • Hello,

    Thank you for the help.
It is now validated that even after upgrading to Dell Migration Manager 8.13 , the issue will be observed.

As per your suggestion , the sync job needs to be done after business hours to avoid issues in outlook / exchange performance.
  • Hello,

Even after upgrading to 8.13 the outlook performance issue will remain.
If we install 8.13 , then will the sync process resume from it was completed by 8.12 or will it start all over again.
Please correct me if I wrong.

    Question :

1500 users access outlook in citrix with shared mailbox in outlook profiles
1900 users access outlook in online / cached in laptop / desktop. They also have shared mailboxes mapped.
If we force the laptop users to use only cached exchange mode, then can we copy these user mailboxes in business hours to O365
After business hours , we copy the user mailboxes in cloud which are in citrix.

However if there is a laptop and citrix user which access the same shared mailbox , then again the user who uses citrix will face performance issue.
  • Your Outlook performance is not related to the use of the tool. So regardless of the version of Migration Manager for Exchange and your clients are not using cached mode you will see performance degradation when you increase the amount of calls to the exchange server.

In response to your question with regards to your business specific requirements I recommend contacting your Account Manager for further assistance since.
  • Hello Chri,

Thank you very much. This answers the query.

    Regards,
