how much space is used on a single disk backup device

See this has been asked before, but didn't see any good answers.

I have 3 backup physical disks in caddies that I manually change out.  But I can't tell how much space is actually used on each one.  My backup says how much data has been backed up, but that doesn't account for dedupe or compression... which I have turned on, but again, I can't even see how much this is saving or if it is even working.  I want to keep as many backups as I can, but I can't really work out how long to keep backups before starting over again withoug being able to tell how much space is used on the drive.  This seems like a rather basic function, not sure why it isn't available or exposed for users.

Regards

Bill

  • Hi ,

Even if you turn on dedup if the device is not a deduplication storage then it will not deduplicate. You can see how much compression it did use in the backup logs, it shows a line saying "device name transfer completed" if you highlight it and click more info it will give you the stats.

Also if you go to Explore Storage and select the single disk backup device you should be able to see stats like data stored, space used, etc
