Access Control is Easy: Use Active Directory Groups and Manage Them Well

Good access governance requires you to catalog your resources, identify the best person to decide who should have access to each resource, and automate the approval and periodic review process. In practice, that means avoiding the use of local groups, whether you’re on Windows file servers, SQL Server, SharePoint and so on. Only when you can assign permissions using Active Directory groups can you truly understand, much less control, who has access to what.
