One Identity Manager 8.1 - Customise limited list values for Person.EmployeeType column

In Identity Manager 8.1 the column Person.EmployeeType is configured out of the box to disallow modification of the Limited Permitted Values list (DisallowCustomLimitedValues = True). 

Is this an intentional setting within 8.1 or should we be able to configure this column with customer specific Employee Type options?

I haven't been able to find any Scripts/Processes that rely on the values in this list and ideally we'd be able to use values that make sense to our business.
