[MUSIC PLAYING] The City of Coppell is the first run city to Dallas, Texas. Population is just under 50,000.
We have a lot of citizens information, their personal information.
We've seen Yahoo and Equifax and a lot of these others that are, you know, exposed, and we at the city don't want to be. So we are looking for tools to help prevent that.

We knew we had numerous applications and we needed that-- the ability to have a single sign on so we didn't have a million different accounts in a million different databases for a million different things. So we started evaluating what are the tools out there that can help us leverage simply single sign on. And then we found the tool Active Roles. Active Roles was a really wonderful tool that allows us to build customizable workflows, that would allow us to have a one portal-- or one set of data active directory to use those credentials across all of our applications.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
The provision-- provision people, we have to be consistent in terms of access. With Active Roles, we can build some dynamic groups and then map those to the approval rule. And then have that, you know, already set up, so irrespective of who is working on that particular position, we can grant them access.

There's lots of different options. You can take it to where you need it to go for pretty much almost-- virtually any application can be customized with the workload. A lot of it's straight out of the box.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
It's easy to deploy. It doesn't take months to have the deployment.

One of the key results of using this tool, in my opinion, is the reduction in the workload from out-- on the IT staff. Now, we have the ability to decentralize the administration function of provisioning accounts. So we have the ability to give, let's say, the person in HR, the ability to add a user without giving them keys to Active Directory. They have explicit attributes that they are allowed to complete to allow the user to come on board.

Historically, would take days to weeks to provision an account across all the different applications.
Now that we are able to [? boot ?] custom policies, custom workflows, it has made our life a little bit easier, because we are able to add that new user into specific groups, provision their home folders and, you know, the license assignments. So most of the activities are on user provisioning and, again, [? the ?] provisioning.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
That helped a lot.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
And the business needs to drive what access levels they need for their people and we, as the IT shop, will help implement that strategy across all the applications.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
And the best part is, again, I love the support. It's really best in class support, I would say, because any time we ask for any kind of break fix or any questions around the workflows, it's really pretty prompt. So I love that.
