Enhancements to Toad Data Reports

This topic is on some enhancements to Toad Data Reports. In Toad for Data Analysts 3.0, we've added the ability to merge multiple reports, use templates, and multiple datasets to our existing Toad Data Reports feature. On Toad Data Reports there's always been in the product. We even have some samples that can be used against the Toad sample database. They're in the project manager. Here is an example of a customer list. You can see any of them. They have a TDR extension. Here's our master detail reports, showing customer orders for particular contacts. Basically, how you use a Toad Data Report is from any grid layout. So wherever you have a SQL that has a result set, you right click on it and send to Data Report Designer. And here, a wizard comes up. It asks you whether you want a standard or label report. You choose the columns that you'd like. You could also choose a grouping column or a calculated summary value. You can choose what type of layout style you'd like and also what format or style sheet. Once you've answered this question, it'll put you into the designer, where you can choose your tables. You can drag them onto the surface or change the different formatting or add items. You can preview the report by clicking the preview button. And when you're done with what you're doing, you can export them to a variety of export types. And that's the basic original feature. Now, let's take a look at some of the new items. Let's take an existing reports, which I have here-- warehouses in the west. When you're in a preview mode, you can go up to the toolbar, and there's a new button called merge report. So now I can point to a second report, and it will add it to the first one. So now I have two reports here. And when I export it to a PDF file, I will now have my two reports. They're both a page a piece in the same report, and now I can export that. Now let's take a look at templates. Let's open this up again. If you notice here, I have customized this a bit by having a logo and a different band. If you go into the design report, you can do whatever changes you want. And then there is a save icon, which saves the report as a layout template. The extension for that is REPX. So I can now save this and use it as a template for other reports. The third item that we've done is multiple datasets. If you come up here to the Toad Reports and open up Data Reports, you will be prompted to enter in a query. So if you just choose a file-- let me navigate over to where we keep my SQL. Here I can put in my query, and I can execute it, take a look at what it's going to look like, and then I can add an additional query. Now these can be two disparate queries, you just need them, or you can establish a relationship to them so that you have a master detail type of option with it. This one happens to be able to be joined in a warehouse ID. Again, you're going to need to choose your columns. Here, I can choose the template that I have before so that I have the same corporate look and feel that I had. And I go into the designer. I now have two tables available. The first one has the relationship, which is the columns from this table are now in line with the other one and can be used as a master detail relationship. Or I don't have to use them that way. If I want to access that data, there's a new tab here where I can execute the data or reestablish a relationship. I can add it after the fact. And if I navigate here, it will go to each of the queries. And so I can preview the data and still have the same export. So those are three good new features for data reports-- merging, templates, and multiple datasets.
