Toad for data analysis is able to connect to just about any database. Companies that have any history also have more than one database type. As an analyst, you need to connect to multiple databases with a single application.
Toad for data analysis provides feature-rich functionality for the major database types of Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, and MySQL. All of the databases can be accessed through the use of ODBC. Such databases would include Sybase, Teradata, Informix, Netezza, and others.
New connections can be made by right-clicking on the Connection Manager, or by selecting New Connection from the Toolbar button. New connections are grouped by the major database types of Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, MySQL, ODBC. Streamlined connections to Access and Microsoft Excel are also included.
Each of the major databases requests specific information needed for connecting with their native clients. All other connections need to have an ODBC data source defined. To define an ODBC data source, click on the ODBC Data Source Manager tool button. Click the Add button to choose the driver type. Many drivers are installed by default. Others may need to be installed using the media from the database vendor. Fill in the connect information, and push OK to apply.
Now back in Toad, select your new data source and fill in the information. You can choose to save the password and even to connect on startup. Connecting to the major databases of Oracle, SQL Server, DB2 and MySQL, provide performance, feature-rich database browsing, syntax highlighting, and code snippets. You can connect to any other type of database and get basic object information and query access.
