Clay Jackson talks about businesses moving to the cloud

Hi. This is Carlos Jimenez, Product Marketing Manager for Quest Software. I'm here with Clay Jackson, sales engineer and Oak Table member. So Clay, what are some of the biggest trends that you're seeing in cloud? Well, a couple of things are going on. First of all, everybody wants to look at cloud or at least go to cloud. It's a lot of hype. A lot of, you know, big expectations, but also a lot of people are being very cautious about it. I think we're seeing three kinds companies, companies that grew up in the cloud, you know, your internet companies, companies that are already there-- Amazon and all their subsidiaries and things, they're already in the cloud already, they've been there forever-- companies that are looking to the cloud, and companies that will never go to the cloud because of security or privacy issues. So those are going to be big issues in the cloud, and I think that's where we see stuff going on. But lots of cloud competitors out there, a lot of stuff going on, and lots of potential for doing a lot of good. And so Clay, drilling down into that, what are some of the biggest challenges or barriers that enterprises are facing in moving to the cloud? Well, I think there are a couple of things. First of all, which things do want to move to the cloud and when. And then how do we get them there? How do we move data from our on prem system into the cloud, and then how do we get data back out of the cloud to wherever our reporting are, our users, and so on. And again, that's-- you know, some companies already have that knocked. Amazon's a great example of that. Or other companies are just looking at that and trying to do it, some of the medical companies and, you know, hospital ERP, how are they going to move to the cloud and keep their data secure How are they going to do this kind of thing? Because data security is a big piece of what's going to be a limitation or impediment to getting stuff to the cloud. And then again, once it's here, how do you get the data in and out, and make sure that you're keeping it secure and keeping it effective. Well, thank you, Clay. Appreciate your insights.
