Hello folks, my name is Robert Pound and I am a product technologist Quest. This video will show how you can take advantage of cloud database technologies in Toad Edge. I will show how you can quickly access an instance running in Amazon's Relational Database Service or RDS, then walk through my experiences with security.
So since I have Toad Edge open, the next step is to open up the RDS console. So I have it open here and I'm logged in. So next I will choose Instances. And I will choose my desired MySQL instance. And I will copy the end point. So I can come here and click Copy, and I will go back to Toad Edge and I will create a new connection. And I will copy it into the host, making sure to remove the port from the end as well as the semi-colon.
And I'll go ahead and enter in the database now. And enter in my credentials. And change settings as desired. Now let me go ahead and test this connection. And test it out OK, so let me go ahead and click OK. And there you have it. I'm connected out to an Amazon Relational Database Service and I'm ready to start using it right away.
So with regards to security, obviously, it may not be that straightforward for you depending on the environment that you have set up. So real briefly, I wanted to look on Toad World real quick. If you go ahead and search Amazon RDS in Toad World, it will come up with a number of links, but I just want to direct you to this one. Using MySQL and Oracle databases on Amazon RDS. So this lays out a number of different topics. I'm just going to focus on the security group itself. So you may want to browse this to figure out your security settings.
Obviously, there's a plethora of information on Amazon itself, but for me, for this demo, I simply, in the VPC dashboard, I changed security group settings. So I essentially added an inbound rule for MySQL, and in this case, essentially allowing everything to connect. That may not be an option for you. Obviously, your mileage may vary. But just to show you how I accomplished it for this demo data set. And that's all I really had to show you.
