Foglight Trial Resources

Thank you for taking the time to consider Foglight. Foglight trial resources are split into two easy steps:

1) The Foglight Virtual Lab allows you to instantly see the benefits of Foglight.

2) The trial installation is for you to install Foglight in your environment.

Throughout the process, we have step-by-step video tutorials to help you solve problems fast.

Foglight Virtual Lab

The Virtual Lab is a pre-configured environment with multiple platforms, variable workloads and simulated problems already created for you to work with.

The Virtual Lab will help you explore how Foglight reacts to issues in a safe environment, helping you decide if Foglight is a good fit for you.

Viewing the Health of Your Instances
This video shows several different ways Foglight helps monitor database health. Pre-built alarms show the severity of issues across the entire environment and allow you to get more information on the host or instance. Performance baselines show how the instance is operating compared to normal status for that time/day. An instance overview shows more details, including which query might be slowing performance. Finally, Foglight offers advisories that include recommendations, additional reading and next steps for issue resolution.

Defining Database Agent Alarm Settings
Foglight gives you the ability to customize alarm settings for your environment. This video shows how to configure and modify alarms for selected agents and rules. Categories help group related alarms, and you can edit multiple alarms at once. In addition to the default settings, Foglight allows you to set thresholds for severity levels that make sense within your environment.

Focus on CPU
Foglight can sound alarms for CPU usage that spikes over established baselines – a clear indicator that something is wrong. In this case, you’ll want to identify queries that might be using the most CPU and potentially tune them. You can also see whether the problem is with the operating system or the hypervisor.

Quickly Isolate Deadlock Issues
Foglight captures database deadlocks in a dedicated UI with tabs to view the deadlocks by time period, database, objects and applications. Using the deadlocks table, you can drill into a deadlock to see the offending SQL text, lost time and more. You can also get more information in downloadable and editable XML which helps you identify the deadlock victim and successful process.
