Thanks for your interest in Quest On Demand, you go-to SAS dashboard for tackling Microsoft challenges in a hybrid world. I'm Shawny Reiner, Senior Strategic Systems Consultant at Quest. In this short video tour, I'm going to explain what On Demand Group Management is and show you On Demand Group Management features.
If you've taken any of the other tours, you know that ODGM is a SAS-based group management tool for on-prem only, hybrid, and Azure-only groups. It allows for controlled self-service creation, management, and attestation, as well as provide the administrator with a single pane for the whole hybrid environment.
From the Admin Portal Settings Policy page, you, as the admin, to find the policies that control group creations, modifications, and attestation. These policies control any group assigned, whether it's an on-prem only, hybrid, or Azure-only group. Everything within ODGM hinges on the group category, and groups are assigned to the group category to control them collectively. You're not limited by just the technical definition of a group type such as security, distro, or Office 365 or limited by where the group resides-- on-prem, hybrid, or Azure.
You can assign any type of group or groups and from any place to a single group category. An example category has been defined to control all employee distro creation. This is a common scenario that occurs when a new possibly temporary project or initiative may be starting and a distro is needed for all the people assigned to the project. So let's walk through the components of creating a group category policy.
The first step is a security level. For this example, a quarterly attestation security level has been created. It's identified as low-grade-- not high-- and auto attestation has been activated, with an interval of quarterly, and the scope of owners and members included, and that they have seven days to complete a request.
The next step is the naming rule. The naming rule allows you to select a connector between the words in the name and define each part of the name. So this particular example, we're going to have the first part as a fixed text of all employees. Then we're going to allow the users to select a value from a lookup, and then the flexible text area that they can type a purposeful meaning.
Lookup values are defined on the Settings page as well and are very simple to create. You simply provide a name, and then you begin to add the values that you want for end user selection. As you can see in this example, we have several for these particular type of distro creations. It's the group category that ties all of these components together.
The items are at the security level that we defined early as quarterly attestation and the naming rule with the lookup values, and you can provide a user friendly description for the purpose of this group category. Existing groups can be assigned a new group category to apply attestation. Group categories are selected at creation to ensure the group is created correctly, and these controls work for both the admin or the self-service portals.
So group category policies is a powerful function of ODGM that simplifies administering groups from any location and any type for the admin and safely and compliantly empowers end users to create and manage those groups.
