Imaging Windows Tablets and Other UEFI Systems over the Network with KACE

“How can I image Windows tablets?” It’s a common question as enterprises begin to incorporate Windows tablets into their work environment as a supplement to traditional PCs.

Windows tablets employ the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI), which prevents them from using the Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) to boot a new image from the network. A common workaround in IT has been to save an image to a USB drive, manually initiate the imaging process by inserting the USB drive to each tablet, then reboot the tablet.

Users running both the KACE K1000 Systems Management Appliance (K1000) and K2000 Systems Deployment Appliance (K2000) in the same environment can take advantage of scripting in the K1000 to automate the process of deploying an image to Windows tablets over the network from the K2000. This technical brief details the procedure step by step.
