Hi, my name is Neil Belfour. And today, I am going to demonstrate Enterprise Reporter 3.0. Enterprise Reporter is an automated, discovery-based reporting solution that gives you visibility into your users, groups, and other configurations. It reports one a number of Microsoft platforms, but today I am going to focus on the file storage analysis portion. So when dealing with file storage analysis, we simply bring up an existing discovery. All discoveries have a consistency with name, scope, and schedule. In this case, we gave it a name.
Now what kind of scopes do we want to gather from a file storage analysis standpoint? Well, primarily servers. So I've added my two servers here. You can import them in from a flat file if you have a couple of hundred discovers that you want to discover from. What do you want to gather from this? For all computers resolved in the directory, let's collect our file information-- folders, shares, hidden shares, owners, home directories. If you have a NAS that you want to gather from, no problem. We can also gather from that.
All of these discoveries can be scheduled or they can be kicked off manually by simply right mouse clicking and click run. Once all of this information is gathered and written to the SQL database, then you can bring up the reporting console. The reporting console contains about 300 reports in the report library. And we do break them down based upon the category of platform that you are looking to view against. Now when dealing with file storage analysis, we do have subcategories such as capacity planning, files and folders, home directories, shares, and even users. All you have to do is pick the report that you want to be able to run, put in the parameters that you want.
Now all these reports can be edited and customized. And then simply click run the report. And now I just ran, in an essence, a top user report within my infrastructure. And I can see real easy from this report who are my biggest abusers as well as top users. It's exportable to a variety of formats and can even be emailed from this console.
