This video will demonstrate how to deploy a four terabyte DR2000v into an ESXI 5.5 environment using the vSphere Web Client. For any DR2000v deployment, the first step is to install a DR2000v license within an associated physical DR appliance. With the DR2000v license that was emailed to you from Dell follow the steps for proper licensing.
First log into the physical DR appliance that your DR2000v will register with. Next, select a license option under the Appliance Support Management branch. Under the license file location, select Choose File. Now browse to the DR2000v license file that was emailed to you. Select Install license. You have now completed the one time licensing installation for your four terabyte DR2000v.
With the DR2000v four terabyte OVA package downloaded launch your vSphere Web Client now. Left mouse select using the host you wish to install the DR2000v. Now choose the Deploy OVF Template command.
Now browse to the location of the DR2000v OVA package. Review the OVF template summary details. Next define the DR2000v VM name for VMware and select the data center where the DR2000v template will be deployed.
Now select the data store in virtual disk format for this deployment. Select the virtual network for the DR to use. Review the DR2000v OVF template settings and select Finish to begin the deployment.
At this point, the deployment process takes five to seven minutes. We'll quickly skip ahead to the tail end of this deployment process. The deployment process has completed.
Now power up the DR2000v and open up its virtual machine console. Depending on your system resources, the next 5 to 15 minutes are needed to self-extract the installation packages and install all the DR2000v components. We'll quickly skip ahead to the tail end of the install process. The install process has completed.
After installation, log into the DR2000v using the default DR username and password. When logging into the DR2000v for the first time, a system setup and configuration wizard is presented. Walk through the wizard to configure the necessary network values that the DR2000v will use for your environment.
Name the DR2000v virtual appliance appropriately. Now confirm the network configuration settings. Next, the configuration of the DR2000v network settings takes place. This process takes three to four minutes. We'll skip ahead to the tail end of this process. At this point DR2000v has been successfully, installed, configured, and we're almost done.
The last step-- to register the DR2000v with an associated physical DR unit holding the DR2000v four terabyte license. Completing this step allows the DR2000v to acquire the license and get activated. As you can see, we can register the DR2000v through the command line, but you can also register the DR2000v through its command GUI. Here we will continue the registration of the DR2000v using the command line.
At the command line, type the following. Make sure to use the IP address of the physical DR hosting the DR2000v license. The DR2000v is now registered and operational.
Open up a web browser, enter the DR2000v IP address into the web browser to gain access to its management console. Then log in using the default username and password for the DR.
When accessing the DR2000v management console for the first time, you are requested to enter customer registration and notification information. Verify the current DR2000v software version is the latest. If a later version of software is available, now is the best time to update. The DR2000v has been deployed, configured, the licensing is activated and is now ready for production. As always, check the Dell DR2000v deployment guide before installations for the latest updates.
