Hi. Today we're going to take a look at the Security Manager module for Metalogix Essentials for Office 365. Using the Security Manager, we can access either On-premises SharePoint permissions or the permissions, the site collections, that are in the Cloud.
Today I'm going to take a look at my tech-marketing site collection. And you'll notice that when you click on this site collection, the different functionality becomes available within the module. I can go and take a look at my object permissions. And I can see what I've got here.
We can take a look at what's within these permissions. We can also right-click. Or we can go and grant a new permission if we want to. We can expose permission levels. And again, we can go and create a new permission level by right-clicking in the space. It's also worth noting that we can go and we can edit and delete permission levels as well.
We can take a look at our groups within the site collection. We can then go and specifically grant different permissions, create groups, or create a permissions level.
From a user point of view, we can go and transfer or clone permissions. This is a fantastic piece of functionality if you have, say for example, joiners, movers, and leavers. You have a user who is leaving at the end of the week, and a new user who's joining. You could transfer the source user's permissions over to the target user's. You can even go and remove the source user's permissions afterwards.
Next, we can go to tell what the permissions given to a select user or group. We can go and check out users who have access to a specific object within the site collection, say for example, a document library. We can go check out orphaned users, take a look at the permissions inheritance from within the site collection. This will give us a report of all the objects within the site collection, whether inheritance is broken or inherited.
We can even then go and compare object permissions between different objects, say for different document libraries. You can also go and run a full permissions inventory for the site collection. An example permissions inventory is shown here.
Lastly, we can get a report of any external users that we have accessing this site collection. This can be enormously handy as we can pull back all users and then go and select them and then either choose to keep them or remove them. We can even audit specific users.
As you can see, the Security Manager module in Metalogix Essentials for Office 365 offers a huge amount of functionality. Join us next time where we explore more aspects of this fantastic tool.
