The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Query Store

With SQL Server 2016, Microsoft introduced the Query Store, which promised to track statement performance over time, pinpoint regressed queries and provide a more effective way to tune. In this informative and insightful session, we will look at the good, the bad and the ugly of Query Store. How well does it actually work? What if your database is read only? What if you have lots of databases to monitor? How does it handle plan changes due to schema changes? Join Jason Hall and Anat Dror, SQL Server experts from Quest, to explore both the limitations and the sweet spot for using Query Store, and discover insightful tips on what to monitor, when to use it and how best to leverage the data it is collecting.

Jason will then demonstrate how you can use Spotlight Developer and its newly released Tuning Pack to deliver a stress-free route to SQL tuning. The Plan Viewer charts the route that SQL Server has chosen for you and highlights any congestion points in the plan by pointing out the most expensive nodes. The all-new Tuning Pack takes this a step further and acts as your GPS to automatically scan all the possible routes that could be taken and recommends the ultimate path to complete your query in the fastest time possible.
