Hyper-Converged VMware Virtual San (vSAN) Monitoring with Foglight

When working with new and existing Foglight customers as they are planning to upgrade from vCenter 5.x to vCenter 6.x Infrastructure, the question is usually always asked, "Does Foglight support monitoring vSAN?"  YES, Foglight supports monitoring vSAN.  vSAN is Software-Defined Storage (SDS) or can be simply described as server-attached hard disks and/or flash devices, in 2 or more Hosts to create a high performing shared Datastore.

Foglight has vSAN Dashboards for -

  • Datastore(s)
  • Virtual Machine(s)
  • Cluster(s)
  • Host(s)

Selecting the Host gives you performance metrics for Transfer Rate and IOps.

Selecting the DiskGroup expands to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and Flash Device in the group.  Selecting the HDD or Flash Device expands to the performance metrics (a example of this can be seen in the Virtual Machine vSAN Topology).
