How does vmover.exe process the files on a file server?

Hi Guys,

I have to migrate a file server from one domain to another.

To do so I have to make sure all permissions were changed to the new domain and the users can access the files from that specific domain after the migration.

Does vmover.exe when running the command "Vmover.exe /c /system=<Virtual_Server_Name> /ini=Vmover.ini" process all the files from that server including the added drives via ISCSI that are used to host the shares? Or do I need to specify something in the ini file?

For this command line "Vmover.exe /c /system=<Virtual_Server_Name> /ini=Vmover.ini", Vmover does what the Vmover.ini tells it to on the computer set by the /system parameter. Do I need to specify something in the ini file? Depends on where you got the INI file from. FileSystem=Yes controls if vmover.exe will walk the file system.

Personally, I prefer to use the /volume switch and control what parts of the file system I am doing. This lets me enter and process different parts of the file system using different executions of vmover.exe. This lets me process the server faster. The /System switch with FileSystem=Yes will walk all drives using a single thread.

Just to add on to what Jeff said. You can open multiple command windows and run multiple threads of vmover.exe to process the volumes much quicker than using just a single vmover.exe process.

How would you proceed in that specific case?
