Best Practices For Hyper v heads and protecting?

Trying to narrow down the best way to handle VM backups.  Backup the VMs or the host and the VMs by way of that?

The dedupe and compression algorithms in the Rapid Recovery software will do enough work to minimize storage impacts in the repository where your recovery points will be stored.
