How to migrate data from Lotus notes DB to SharePoint

Quest tool only allow to select the records via Lotus notes existing views and forms which limit the records to be migrated. Is it possible to select all records with fields from Lotus notes DB and migrate to SharePoint without creating new views in Lotus notes? Please suggest the possible approaches.

  • You can just not set a filter and migrate all records - this would not "limit the records to be migrated"?

  • Hi Peter,

Thanks for reply. Could you please give more details. How I can achieve this? any steps would be great!
  • If you leave the "Record Selection" tab just blank, MNSP will attempt to migrate all items in the Notes database. As simple as that.
All options on the "Record Selection" tab are just filters, that will filter down from All Records. If you set more than one filter type (e.g. "Form used" and "Notes @Formula"), there is a logical AND between them.

Does that answer your question - I am really not sure I understand it right?
  • Thanks Peter. It helped a lot. Could you please help to address below queries. I am a SharePoint developer and new to Lotus Notes and Quest Migration tool.

    1. How to migrate custom lotus notes application with table templates (schema/definition templates) to SharePoint. Any steps would be helpful.
This includes all the visual elements on the form, including form layouts, Field labels, graphics and even computed for display fields.

2.how to attach notes templates to SharePoint list template/site template.
  • 1. MNSP can migrate Notes forms to InfoPath forms or Nintex forms. This will include most of the formatting, but little of the logic (validation, hide-when etc.) Most of these need to be re-created manually.

To be honest, I don't know how Notes table templates work, so I'm afraid I can offer little help here.

    2. I don't know exactly what you mean with "attach".

What you can do with list templates:
    i) Create a SharePoint list template in SharePoint
ii) Create a matching target data definition in MNSP.
On the "Advanced" tab, under "Matching SharePoint templates", select your SharePoint list template.
(If a SharePoint target Site is specified, we will pull all templates from SharePoint. If no target is specified, we will only show the default templates.)

iii) Create a Source Data Definition for your Notes template in MNSP.
Make sure the template name is specified under "Templates supported".
Specify the SharePoint template name under "Maps to list types".

iv) Now, when you create a new migration job and select a database based on your Notes template, MNSP will prompt you if you want to load a matching Source Data Definition. (You can create more than one data definition for a template - you will then have a selection of all matching definitions.)

After you loaded the Source Data Definition, you can change to the SharePoint tab and click on "Load". Again, you will be asked if you want to load a matching Target Data Definition. (And again, you can have more than one.)

What you can do with Site Templates:

    i) In the MNSP Console, create a Technical Class for your Notes Template.

ii) On the "Auto Target" tab in the Class properties, you can select to "Create new site for each database". There you can also select a Site Template.
(Again, if you have a SharePoint parent Site selected, we will pull all available Site templates. If not, we will only show default templates.)

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks Peter for your help,
I'm a sharepoint developer. How to migrate Lotus notes database having views with 2/4 content types. Could you please help me:)
  • I'm afraid giving a training in how MNSP works with forms, views and field selection (and more) in this forum is rather tedious and not very effective. Have you had a chance to see the "Notes Migrator for SharePoint Partner Training" videos?
