Support dropped for windows 7 in agent 6.2

How long will we be able to backup Windows 7 to the core server?  Will newer version of the core server still support an agent that works with Windows 7 and for how long?

  • Rapid Recovery's general rule for when support will end for an OS is when the OS reaches the end of extended support with the OS vendor. Microsoft states that Windows 7 will end extended support on January 14, 2020. So you can pretty safely assume Rapid Recovery will be able to support the 6.1.3 agent through that time. I'm not committing to anything, but that's generally how things are approached here.

From an official support stance, Rapid Recovery supports 2 minor releases prior to the current release. So with release 6.2 the builds 6.0.2, 6.1.3, and 6.2.0 are supported. So in 2 more minor releases, support for 6.1.3 will be dropped and at the time it will be a situation where backup may or may not work, but it won't be officially supported.

So that you know, we do have 6.1.3 cores that still work to backup 5.3 agents which are 3 minor releases behind. So you're probably pretty safe for the next 1-2 years.
