Rapid recovery creating a base image each time when backing up an RDS server with user profile disks

We have an RDS server with user profile disks. (VHDX)

RR is protecting 1.08 TB of data.

Each time the server is backed up a base image is being captured.

This is also causing issues with replication due to RR trying to replicate all of the recovery points totaling 17 TB.

Please can someone advise if there is a way to prevent a base image being captured each time?

  • Hi Francis, No Core upgrade has recently taken place.

The backup server has been taking daily backups at 20:00 since 28th September. Previous months have been rolled up. Daily backups this month have all been base images.

I have already opened a service request with support but have been waiting on a reply for a couple of days.

I believe the issue is related to the user profile disks on the RDS server.

    Core version : 6.0.2.144

    Agent version : 5.4.3.106

  • Hello David,

Would you kindly provide me with your open Service Request number? I would he happy to get additional attention to that request so I can get you a timely response and resolution.

    Kind regards

  • Hi Brian,

This looks to be resolved by quest support.

The daily morning reboot of this server was not shutting down the machine cleanly resulting in a dirty shutdown.

RR will request a new base image each time after a dirty shutdown of a server.

Tested by forcing another snapshot after the base image had completed. The subsequent backup was incremental.

    thanks

    Dave
