Needing to upgrade from 8.2 to 8.4 and move servers

Can this be done in one step? Just install 8.4 on the new server and point to the old database. Or would it be best to upgrade the old install to 8.4 before cutting over to the new server?

Anything on this? Doing almost the same. Upgrade from 8.3 to 8.4, new application server and new SQL Server. Only info found so far: https://support.quest.com/technical-documents/active-administrator/8.4/release-notes/7#TOPIC-1267799
