With the launch of Foglight for Storage Management 3.2, we have added support for HP 3PAR storage arrays. In this BLOG, I’ll present some screenshots that illustrate the information that we’re able to collect.

Foglight for Storage Management collects from 3PAR arrays using the SMI-S provider that runs natively on the 3PAR arrays. You may need to enable the SMI-S provider on the array if it’s not already running, but you will not need to install any third-party SMI-S provider yourself on an external server.

From the “Summary” tab, we can quickly ascertain the health of each of the subcomponents that make up this 3PAR array by reviewing the “Related Inventory” section. It tells us how many of each subcomponent are present and the health (good, warning, critical, or failure) of each. We also get a summarized view of storage capacity, overcommitted pools, controller performance, and LUNs/disks. As always, an alarm summary at the bottom of the page lists all active alarms which can be sorted by severity.

From the “Controllers-Ports” tab, we get performance and health/status information about every controller and port within the array. This can be useful when troubleshooting performance as you can easily identify heavily utilized controllers or ports which could be creating bottlenecks.

The “Pools” tab lists the top 5 pools in terms of data rate, IOPS rate, and over commitment. And it provides detailed health, performance, and capacity information for every pool included in the array.

You can drill down into any particular pool by clicking it from the list. This will take you to a view that provides more detailed performance, capacity, and health metrics for that specific pool. You can also get data about the LUNs and disks that belong to that pool.

The “LUNs” tab lists the top 5 LUNs in terms of data rate, latency, and cache hit rate. And it provides health, performance, and general information about every LUN in the array.

Clicking on a LUN name takes you a different view with more detailed performance, capacity, and health metrics for that particular LUN. You can also see a graphical topology that shows the hosts, VMs, and datastores connected to that LUN. This can be useful for determining who will be affected if a LUN is taken offline.

Finally, the “Disks” tab lists the top 5 disks in terms of IOPS rate, latency, and date rate. And it provides health, performance, and capacity information for every disk in the array.

As you can see, with the new monitoring support that we’ve included in Foglight for Storage Management 3.2, you’re now able to better monitor and resolve storage-related performance issues quicker when you have HP 3PAR storage arrays in your environment.
